About the station Alive? Alive! [Slovene: Živ?Živ!]

Alive? Alive! is a station of life where professionals and individuals with personal experience write about mental health and suicide. It is a junction for information, research, and prevention programs. Our wish is that the station helps people speak openly about suicide.

Sitting on a platform at the station, I am peacefully waiting for a train. I take a deep breath and feel the environment and activity around me. People come and go. Trains connect little villages and big cities. A little earlier I thought I felt lonely, but it is different at the station. The train is late, which gives me the opportunity to read everything that attracts my attention today. I know that the station is only a part of the journey. Then I board the train of life.

Perhaps you are in distress or thinking about suicide. Maybe you’ve lost someone due to suicide. Maybe you have noticed a friend or family member whose mood is getting worse and you are afraid that they might harm themselves and you don’t know what to do.

Perhaps you are a professional who works with people who are in distress and have thoughts about suicide. Teachers, educators, medical doctors, psychologists, nurses, caretakers, policeman, priests, fireman, and journalists are some of these people.

You are interested in mental health and are looking for information about it. You have arrived at the right station, Alive? Alive!

The website Alive? Alive! is edited by Vita Poštuvan of the Slovene Centre for Suicide Research.

The website is presented as a station because suicidal behaviour can be seen as one of the stations in our life. The name of the website itself, Alive? Alive!, signifies that an individual is able to find a way forward from the station. Another station in life is for family and friends mourning the loss of a loved one due to suicide.

The Alive? Alive! logo is reminiscent of a train station sign, while it also includes a trail blaze which is commonly used to guide you along a hiking path. This logo is a Slovenian symbol, which shows that we are on the right track.
